Wii achievements- an idea with mixed opinions

On the Internet, I've been hearing A LOT about the Wii being inferior to other consoles(which isn't true, in my opinion), and one of the main reasons for this is that it lacks an achievement system. Some say it would add a lot to the console, while others believe it is unnesessary(sp?). Would an achievement system be good? what is your standpoint on this ?

By "achievement system",I mean as in the XBox achievements.You know, where you do stuff and earn a certain amount of points.

They already have it.You get wii points...........

That's not the same.Wii Points are currency. Gamerscore is a measure of points recieved from completing tasks.
